What a good bottle of Pinot! The nose elicits wild strawberry/blueberry preserves with a touch of savory baking spice and hints of sunbaked italian herbs. The palate has beautiful, rich fruit with a perfect savory edge from bottle age, and a tension from the tannins and acidity that keeps you going back for more and more. This is a high-pedigree bottle in its prime drinking window...What more can you ask for?

If you're comprising a list of New Zealand's greatest sites for Pinot Noir, its impossible to leave Clayvin Vineyard off the list. This is absolutely one of New Zealand's Grand Crus, and undoubtedly Marlborough’s most epic vineyard. Planted in 1991 by viticulturist Mike Eaton, who was inspired by the hillside slopes and densely planted vineyards in Burgundy. Today, the vineyard is owned by Giesen Brothers, who craft the most prestigious wines in their line-up from this site. Under the helm of winemaker Nicholai St. George, Giesen’s top line is creating stunning Pinot Noir from this epic vineyard. The 2014 has an array of aromas and level of complexity that is totally enthralling. Cranberry and kirsch offset with notes of sandalwood and forest floor. Elegantly styled, but with plenty of power the weight on this wine is just perfect. Excellent, full-throttle acidity keeps the palate light and energetic. Finishing with just a touch of earth mushroom, this is perfectly within its maturity, and I imagine, will continue to drink well for several years in the future.
