Von Strasser continues to produce stunning Cabernets that are not only delicious when released, but ageable. This estate bottling is superbly rich in cassis and cedar, and while the tannins are thick, they're sweet and intricate. (RP)

K&L Notes
Earlier this year, we sent a note to the folks at Von Strasser inquiring about the possibility that any of their library wines might be available to us. The response we got surpassed even our wildest dreams! They sent a huge list of wines dating back to the late 1990s, in a variety of large formats, and with very competitive pricing!
Rudy Von Strasser founded his eponymous winery in 1990, but before that, he was already an accomplished and somewhat groundbreaking winemaker in his own right. Rudy was the first American intern to work at Château Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux, for the 1985 vintage. After that, he worked in Napa for legendary winemaker John Kongsgaard at Newton Vineyards. In 1990, along with his wife, Rita, he purchased a property directly adjacent to the legendary Diamond Creek Vineyards, high in the Diamond Mountain AVA. There he set about crafting powerful, age-worthy, mountain fruit Cabernets that quickly gained a stellar reputation. The wines have long been favorites here at K&L—we’ve carried over 200 wines from Von Strasser over the last 27 years! These classically styled Cabs, built to age, have typically sat well with our “house palate,” which is so influenced by the Left Bank wines of Bordeaux. The provenance on these wines is perfect. They came directly from the winery to us in a temperature-controlled truck. As we rush ever closer to the holiday season, some of these large-format offerings are absolutely made for the holiday table!
