2018 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1481362 97 points Decanter

Outer quote mark The Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg is generally poured last in any tasting at the domaine, but it's not an especially big or tannic wine, even in cooler, more traditional vintages. This is racy, elegant and very detailed, with less texture and plushness than you sometimes find in wines from the Grand Cru, but an engaging thread of minerality and a fine, refreshing finish. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032. (TA) Inner quote mark (10/2019)

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark As usual, the king of the cellar at Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is the 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru, a magical wine in the making that blossoms in the glass with complex scents of cherries, wild berries, candied peel, peonies, spices and smoked meats. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and multidimensional, with an ample chassis of ripe tannins, considerable concentration and lively acids, concluding with a long, intense finish. 93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark This is arguably the freshest wine in the range with its cool and pure aromas of plum, pomegranate, spice and a plethora of floral elements. The rich, full-bodied and almost painfully intense flavors while exhibiting focused power on the very firmly structured, stony and gorgeously complex finale. This is a buy and forget you own it Riche that possesses outstanding development potential. *Don't Miss!* Inner quote mark (1/2020)

93-95 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has plenty of dark berry fruit on the nose, including blackberry and touches of blueberry, as well as a tang of sea cave; the marine inflection becomes more noticeable with aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, finely tuned and very supple in texture. This is a very harmonious Richebourg, albeit without the persistence I have found in other vintages from the domaine. Still, an excellent wine. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

Outer quote mark Charles van Canneyt’s 2018 Richebourg is also a fine bottle in the making, but it is a powerful and nicely structured wine and this too is going to take plenty of bottle age to really start to drink with generosity. The nose offers up a primary combination of red and black plums, cherries, dark chocolate, a good base of soil, gamebird, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and muscular, with excellent depth at the core, firm, buried tannins and a long, primary, and surprisingly soil-driven (particularly for a young Richebourg!) finish. This is going to be very good as well, but it may take even longer than the RSV to reach cruising altitude. Inner quote mark (12/2019)

K&L Notes

97-99 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "A beautiful purple, not quite so deep as the Romanée-St-Vivant. The nose obviously suggests there will be power to come but has so much detail, along with a little bit of oak. Plumper yet also tighter, so much going on. Eaten up the oak on the palate."
