2019 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1480636 95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark There's some seriously good Merlot coming from the upper plateau of Pomerol in 2019, and the 2019 Château Clos L'Eglise is one of them. Deep purple-hued, with a rocking bouquet of black cherries, mulberries, chocolate, leafy herbs, and violets, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a heavenly, seamless texture, polished tannins, and a great mix of freshness and richness. Nothing is over the top, it's perfectly ripe, has a great mid-palate, and is a beautiful Pomerol in the making. Inner quote mark (6/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2019 Clos l'Eglise offers ripe black cherries, wild strawberry, hints of liquorice and marmalade on the nose, well-defined, quite extravagant but not excessive. It reflects the growing season. The palate is sweet and caressing in texture on the entry thanks to the saturated tannins. Good depth here, that liquorice note reappearing towards the finish that exerts a gentle grip, then delivers a long spicy aftertaste. Great potential, a Pomerol that should give 20-30 years of drinking pleasure. (NM) Inner quote mark (6/2020)

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Clos l'Eglise slowly unfurls to reveal wonderfully fragrant scents of red roses, candied violets, Sichuan pepper, hoisin and garrigue over a core of blackberry preserves, stewed plum and spice cake with a waft of cast-iron pan. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly played with a well-knit backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the fragrant layers, finishing long and mineral laced. K&L Notes

PLEASE NOTE: 2019 Bordeaux Futures are being offered without any added tariffs. If there are applicable tariffs at the time the wines are imported in 2022, we will contact you with the option to pay tariffs to have the wine delivered, or cancel the order with no penalty. 92-94 points Antonio Galloni in Vinous: "The 2019 Clos de l’Église is a wine of power, but also reserve. It is the most reticent of Hélène Garcin's 2019. Beams of tannin give the 2019 a feeling of real gravitas and brooding intensity. Blackberry jam, new oak, licorice and chocolate add to the wine's dark, inward personality. Readers will have to be patient." (6/2020)
