2018 Tablas Creek "Côtes de Tablas" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1479498 94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark There’s an utter smoothness to this wine that must come from the decades of experience that the winery has in blending Rhône varieties. This mix of 45% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 12% Counoise and 10% Mourvèdre starts with cherry, hibiscus, crushed gravel and cola on the nose. The palate combines berry, baking-spice and cappuccino flavors, wrapped in a leathery structure. *Editors’ Choice* (VB) Inner quote mark (8/2020)

Outer quote mark Precise yet expressive, with elegantly complex black cherry and raspberry flavors accented by smoky garrigue and cracked pepper flavors that build tension toward medium-bodied tannins. (TF) Inner quote mark (10/2020)

90-92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Shimmering ruby-red. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote and pungent flowers are sharpened by a smoky mineral topnote. Subtly sweet and lively on the palate, offering juicy red and blue fruit flavors that deepen and spread out with aeration. Candied licorice and allspice notes emerge on a long, sappy finish that features dusty tannins and lingering spiciness. (JR) Inner quote mark (2/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Côtes De Tablas is more Grenache-dominated and includes 33% Syrah, 12% Counoise, and 10% Mourvèdre. It's another pretty wine from this estate that offers lots of raspberry and strawberry fruit as well as plenty of spice and pepper, medium-bodied richness and depth, and a good finish. It's going to drink nicely for a solid 5-7 years. Inner quote mark (9/2020)

K&L Notes

Côtes de Tablas is a benchmark Rhône blend from one of California's premier Rhône Rangers. Tablas Creek is a partnership of the late Vineyard Brands founder, Robert Haas, and the Perrin family of the famous Château de Beaucastel, in France. The vines grown at Tablas Creek were imported from the Beaucastel estate. Organically farmed and located in west Paso Robles, (chosen because the soil similarity to Châteauneuf-du-Pape), Tablas Creek makes some of the best Rhône-style wine in California.
