2016 Ponzi "Reserve" Willamette Valley Chardonnay (Elsewhere $40.00)

SKU #1479489 93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is a complex Chardonnay with a wealth of ripe peaches and pears, framed in attractive, grilled-cashew and praline nuances. The palate has very composed texture and freshness and delivers a sturdy, concentrated impression with pears, lemons and grilled hazelnuts to close. Inner quote mark (7/2019)

93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Brilliant straw-yellow. Spice- and smoke-accented melon, pear and white peach aromas are complicated by suggestions of orange zest, toasty lees and pungent flowers. Juicy, palate-caressing orchard and pit fruit, candied ginger and sweet butter flavors are underscored by a vein of tangy acidity. Lingers with subtle sweetness and strong tenacity, leaving honeysuckle and pear nectar notes behind. (JR) Inner quote mark (9/2020)

93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark With both quality and interest in Oregon Chardonnay at an all-time high, it's a pleasure to see one of the state's founding wineries offering its reserve-level effort at a price well below the competition. Supple and sexy, this is buoyed by juicy acids atop tangy flavors of gooseberry, green apple, grapefruit and Meyer lemon. But don't think it's sour: those flavors round out into a palate-pleasing, lightly toasty finish, with the extra details that native yeasts often provide. *Cellar Selection* (PG) Inner quote mark (8/2020)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2016 Chardonnay Reserve has a lovely nose of apple pie, hazelnuts, honey, cream and mushroom with notes of cheese rind and a spicy undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate has a creamy texture and savory character, with juicy acidity and a long finish. (EB) Inner quote mark (4/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Chardonnay Reserve is a richer, medium-bodied effort that has a solid kiss of oak to go with plenty of classy orchard and citrus fruits, toasted nuts, white flowers, and toasted bread. It needs air to show at its best and revealed more pure fruit as well as vibrancy as it sat in the glass. With great acidity, plenty of sweet fruit, and a clean, nicely focused finish Inner quote mark (3/2020)

In case you haven't experienced the enthusiasm for Oregon Chardonnay lately it's time to get on board. After decades of trial-and-error the fruits of their labor is paying off! Based on my tastings in 2019 and early 2020 I consider this one of the most exciting trends in the entire wine world. So when Ponzi offered us the chance to scoop us the last of their 2016 Reserve bottling we jumped on it. The Reserve bottling is sourced from a few important LIVE certified and sustainable vineyards in the Willamette Valley and several sub AVAs. It leans towards the richer style with hints of fresh apples and toasted nuts. It's medium bodied with a bright core of vibrant acidity and a just a touch of oak spice. To entice you even more, we have a very attractive price for you. It's hard to say "no"...so don't!
