SKU #1477398 Vinous

Outer quote mark Medium red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry and raspberry, with a whiff of forest floor. Sweeter and fuller in the middle than the Montgomery Vineyard pinot, but the flavors are somewhat diffuse. Finishes with rather fine tannins. (ST) Inner quote mark (5/2001)

K&L Notes

Hank Skewis retired his low-key, under-the-radar, self-named operation in 2017, having spent a career as winemaker at Lambert Bridge, Mill Creek, and a stint in Burgundy. He was early in getting premium fruit from the Anderson Valley, and the famed Floodgate vineyard, back in 1994, before it was sold. More about Skewis from the Healdsburg Tribune: "Trained in France and informed by old world winemaking that respects low yields and recognizes fruit as everything, Hank makes classic Pinot Noir. 'When I started making Pinot I always felt I was swimming upstream, emulating Burgundian, earthy, herbaceous wines true to the variety and sense of place where the grapes were grown. Americans now understand and appreciate this style. It’s been incredibly gratifying, and I feel fortunate to have made a living doing what I love.'" (Marie Gewirtz, 5/4/2017)
