2016 Radio-Coteau "Las Colinas" Sonoma Coast Syrah

SKU #1475378 95 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark The 2016 Syrah Las Colinas sees a solid chunk of stems (31%) and is brought up all in neutral oak, This ruby/purple-hued effort offers a Côte Rôtie-like vibe in its floral, bacon fat, violet, and both black and blue fruited style. It's elegant, seamless, very pretty and pure, and beautifully balanced, with loads of exotic characteristics, fine tannins, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade. Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Syrah Las Colinas is just as striking from bottle as it was from barrel. Deep and layered yet also light on its feet, Las Colinas is super-expressive today. Floral and savory whole cluster overtones add brightness as this mid-weight, vibrant Syrah shows off its considerable personality. There is so much to like. Polished and nuanced to the core, the Las Colinas is all class. (AG) Inner quote mark (5/2019)

K&L Notes

Winemaker's notes: "The Las Colinas Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. Élevage in 500-liter French oak puncheons helps to preserve fruit and spice, and affords graceful aging in the cellar. A select barrel blend from two top organically farmed, single-vineyard sites - Harrison Grade and Dusty Lane - a sultry inkiness and chewy fine tannin set the stage for present enjoyment or lay-down potential. Always a classic, the 2016 Las Colinas Syrah offers an elegant snapshot of Sonoma Coast Syrah. The 2016 Las Colinas Sonoma Coast Syrah exhibits a youthful bouquet of ripe, dark fruit - blackberry, blueberry, and Japanese plum - which is charmingly confirmed on the palate. Further exploration yields violets intermingling with dried thyme, rosemary, and marjoram, along with a touch of young black peppercorn and olive tapenade. A savory hint of bacon adds intriguing complexity, while modest tannins and earthen components of black truffle and forest floor round out the palate."
