2018 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

SKU #1474219 94 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Brought up mostly in French oak, with a small amount in concrete, the 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has that classic Sonoma Coast pretty red fruit-driven style as well as subtle white flower, spice, and even a kiss of minerality. It's beautifully balanced and medium-bodied, with an elegant, ethereal style that still has solid structure. It will drink well for a decade. Inner quote mark (5/2020)

Outer quote mark Coming about 30% to 40% from Gap's Crown this vintage, the 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has very pretty, sweet berry fruits - strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb - with accents of tea leaves, dried flowers and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate has a great dichotomy of classic Pinot Noir fruit and amaro-like bitterness, juicy, soft and sexy with a long, spicy finish. Lovely! (EB) Inner quote mark (7/2020)

91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Sourced from a myriad of spectacular sites, this red is thick in approach and nuanced in spice, bursting in dark cherry, currant, rhubarb and clove. Classic elements of forest floor and black tea accent the brawny structure and long finish. (VB) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

K&L Notes

Kosta Browne is the quintessential boutique California Pinot producer. They source from impeccable vineyards in the state's most revered Pinot growing regions, they make a staggering number of wines that all bear personalities distinct from one another, and they typically sell almost all of their production through a highly allocated mailing list. To find the KB wines in retail stores is a rare occurrence, indeed. Winery notes: "With idyllic weather from start to finish, 2018 was one of the finest growing seasons of the past decade. Each wine within the Appellation Series embodies the unique qualities we cherish from the regions we work with. The vineyards we source from lie in both the southern portion of the appellation and in the northern true coastal zone. In the southern area, the Petaluma Wind Gap and the San Pablo Bay drive cooler temperatures and provide us with deep flavors and richly textured wines. The vineyards from the coastal reaches contribute savory and spice characteristics that we love as well as great structure and poise. This year, the cooler sites such as Marshall and Balletto were able to have long hang times and were the last to be picked. The fruit had excellent development of tannins and dark, rich fruit profiles. Blackberry and raspberry complemented the great depth and long finish."
