2018 Turley "Bechthold Vineyard" Lodi Cinsault

SKU #1470164

Turley Wine Cellars makes thirty-four wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations. Winemaker's notes: "Planted in 1886, this Cinsault vineyard is the oldest of its kind in the country - perhaps even beyond. The vines are gnarly, head-trained and planted on their own roots. The wine is light-bodied, tart, perfumed, and extremely well balanced."

Stylistically this wine is somewhat of an outlier in Turley’s portfolio. This bright, juicy, light to medium-bodied red wine comes from a vineyard widely believed to be the oldest surviving planting of Cinsault on the planet, dating from 1886. Yes, that’s 132 summers, winters, and everything in between that contribute to the vines’ expression of place.
