2018 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Chaignots" (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1468389 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Offering up aromas of wild blueberries, cassis, dark chocolate and spices, the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple, with succulent acids and powdery tannins. This is one of the more charming, immediate premiers crus in the Chevillon cellar. (WK) Inner quote mark (2/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru comes from two parcels comprising 1.5 hectares. This is a distinct level up from the Village Cru, with a nose of red cherries, wild strawberry and light rose petal aromas, all beautifully defined and quite Mugneret-Gibourg in style. The medium-bodied palate offers slightly chalky tannins on the entry. Quite compact and not a deep Nuits Saint-Georges, though there is fine mineralité toward a finish replete with blackberry and dried blood/ferrous notes. I suspect it will flesh out during the remainder of its élevage, and it should be fascinating to watch in bottle. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark Discreet but still discernible wood sets off cool, pure and elegant aromas of various dark berries, plum and a touch of freshly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of refinement to the still sleekly muscular and powerful middle weight flavors that possess a sappy mouthfeel on the ever-so-mildly austere, long and serious finale. Outer quote mark One gets accustomed to the Chaignots in the Chevillon cellars being so charming and potentially drinkable fairly early on in its evolution, that it was a bit of a surprise to see how powerfully structured the wine is this year. Chaignots is of course on the northern side of Nuits St. Georges, so this wine was not affected by the July hail, but it still has plenty of depth and muscle. The nose offers up a mix of pure, sappy black cherries, black raspberries, gamebird, chocolate, a fine base of soil tones and a deft foundation of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and broad-shouldered for this cuvée, with great depth of fruit at the core, fine balance and grip and a long, ripely tannic and promising finish. 2030-2075. Inner quote mark (12/2019)

K&L Notes

92-95 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Dense purple, really succulent, thick textured chocolate and raspberry, this hits 14% but is in no danger of falling over. It will certainly need time, however. One to put away for a decade."
