2017 Maryetta "Helluva Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir is made from 100% Pommard clone, and it's fermented like the "minimal interventionalists" like best: whole berry, native yeast fermentation, and aged for 11 months on the lees in not once, or twice, but third-use French oak cooperage. It's bottled unfiltered, and the whole production is just 56 cases from a 500 liter puncheon.

I know the vineyard well and this wine is classic Helluva Vineyard Pinot Noir which is located in Boonville, in the heart of Anderson Valley. Ripe flavors of fresh strawberries and spice, good acid and a lovely texture lead to a wine that drinks well now and will hold for many years to come. We taste a lot of Pinot Noirs here at K&L but this one stood out to me because it was very good and at $20 is a screaming deal!

Sadly this wonderful brand "Maryetta" will no longer be released under this name. On the plus side...we worked a direct deal with the winemaker to help move through the remaining inventory of these delicious wines. The pricing he gave us is almost too good to be true. Focusing on organically farmed vineyards in Anderson Valley and Mendocino Ridge. This particular bottling is from one of the most sought after vineyards in the region aptly named "Helluva Vineyard". A tiny production of one 500L puncheon barrel yielding just 56 cases! The nose has crushed rose petal, baking spices, brooding red fruits, freshly turned soil. The palate is medium bodied, very silky and elegant. Super refined tannis and superb length and purity on the palate.
