2018 Cristom "Mt. Jefferson Cuvée" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1464485 94 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark A very spicy and fresh array of blueberries, ripe darker cherries and plums. Cassis aromas, too, as well as more savory notes of graphite and fragrant wood. The palate has very striking depth and presence with expansive, fleshy tannins carrying intense fruit flavors, in the darker spectrum of cherries and berries. Cocoa powder to close. Outer quote mark An outstanding vintage for this entry-level Pinot, it opens with scents of cranberry and raspberry, leading into pure fruit flavors etched by pineapple acidity. It morphs into a lemon rind flavor and lemon verbena highlight on the palate, while the ripe berry fruit holds through the trailing finish. All native yeast was used, along with 46% whole-cluster fermentation. It spent just under a year in 21% new French oak. (PG) Inner quote mark (10/2020)

This is some serious structured Pinot Noir! Fresh, firm with snappy red cherry, red plum and blood orange juiciness. It has distinctive Oregon earthiness with savory finish and pretty floral aromas. Definitely a steal for the price if you are a fan of classic Oregon Pinot Noir.

This Cristom always over-delivers for the price and exhibits all the classic Oregon flavors. Made from mostly estate fruit, this wine is snappy, dusky, and well-balanced with dark red fruits. The edition of around 40% whole cluster gives nice structure and some punchy earthiness that makes it stand out. One of my favorite Oregon labels time and time again.
