2005 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Fuées"

SKU #1462081 93-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees returns to a fresh fruit expression of black raspberry, supplemented by notes of ginger, white pepper and wood smoke. Expansive on the palate, bright in fruit and full of fine-grained tannin, this offers an impressively long, incisive finish of fresh black fruits coupled with resin and chalk, in complete stylistic contrast with the Charmes. This needs 3-5 years before opening and should age positively for a dozen. (DS) Inner quote mark (4/2007)

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A notably ripe extract of black cherry and cassis nose complements to perfection the rich, sappy and exceptionally fresh and vibrant medium plus weight flavors that are minerally, intense and pure. This is an understated effort built around a base of stone and is moderately austere on the wonderfully long finish underpinned by an almost palpable sense of tension. Terrific potential here. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding* Inner quote mark (1/2007)

Outer quote mark The 2005 les Fuées is another gorgeous bottle of premier cru waiting in the cellars this year, with more of the black fruity personality of the Beaux Bruns. The vines here are 70 years-old, and it shows. The nose is a remarkably deep and sappy mélange of plums, red and black cherries, violets, minerals and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and loaded with pure fruit in the mid-palate, with great focus, a fair bit of ripe tannin, bright acids, and a very long, tangy and palate-staining finish. This beautiful bottle of Chambolle will take a few years to resolve, but should offer superb drinking for a couple of decades after it fully blossoms. Inner quote mark (11/2006)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Subdued aromas of plum, chocolate, violet and crushed rock, with a slightly liqueur-like quality. Dense, sappy, superconcentrated and sweet; a remarkably solid wine with terrific chewy depth. The finish stains the palate with powerful tannins and minerality, but the fruit and tannins will need at a good 10 years to come into harmony. There were just four barrels of this juice, as opposed to a typical five and a half, due to the tiny, thick-skinned grapes. It should be at least a misdemeanor to open this wine anytime soon. (ST) 93+ Inner quote mark (3/2008)
