 The Zinfandel-dominated 2017 Westberg Red (which includes 24% Tempranillo) is another saturated purple-colored effort from winemaker Don Burns that offers an earthy, meaty bouquet of black fruits, plums, Asian spices, flowers incense, and blood orange.  A blend of 76% Zinfandel and 24% Tempranillo aged 22 months in 60% new oak, the medium ruby-purple colored 2017 Westberg Red is scented of cranberry, sour cherries, sliced peaches, purple flowers, earth and charcuterie, blossoming with time to loads of bright, high-toned nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it explodes with perfumed flavor layers, gently framed but über juicy, finishing long and loaded with flavor. (EB)  (2/2020)

I was introduced to Turtle Rock about five years ago and was immediately impressed by how commanding the wines were with their bold flavor profile, gorgeous mouthfeel and impeccable balance. I continue to be impressed 5 years later with the Westberg Red. A deliciously lusty blend of Zin and Tempranillo with plenty of deep chocolate, tobacco, ripe and dried fruits, this is full-bodied and so luxurious and smooth- it is screaming for a lamb burger, grilled sausage or finger-licking saucy BBQ ribs.

The Westberg Red is a silky, delicious zinfandel heavy blend with 24% of tempranillo all hailing from 4hearts vineyard in Paso Robles. The moment I tried this, I kept thinking about how I would not only want to have a big ol' BBQ at my place, but also how I would love to have some ribs with wine. The Westberg Red is rather meaty, with nice notes of white pepper, and worthy enough of being invited to your next bbq!

This exuberant red is bursting with flavor. There’s plenty of classic Zinfandel fruit; brambly and briary, punctuated by the elegance and grace of Tempranillo. It’s truly a remarkable combination. The nose emits a wild array of berries and flowers. Though it skews towards being a bigger style wine, enthusiasts will be impressed by its sleek and seamless nature. If there’s a BBQ or Tri-Tip in your future, be sure to pour a bottle of the Westberg Red into a decanter about an hour ahead of schedule. The pairing will silence the room. Drink up!
