The 2018 Domprobst Auslese from Johannes Selbach was really showing beautifully at the time of my visit. This wine included about twenty-five percent botrytized berries in it this year and comes in between 8.5 and nine percent alcohol, with sugars around 85 grams. The pure and classic nose wafts from the glass in a mix of white cherry, pineapple, a hint of the honeycomb to come, tropical flowers and a lovely dollop of salty minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, full-bodied and exquisitely balanced, with a creamy core, bright acids and lovely lift and grip on the long, complex and dancing finish. A first class Auslese! (Drink between 2025-2075)

The 2018 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese opens flinty, cool and precise on the bright and intensely scented nose, showing no signs of botrytis but super bright and healthy fruit intertwined with flinty-spicy slate aromas. Lush and round but also racy and piquant on the clear and super precise palate, this is a highly attractive and digestible Auslese with a crystalline, stimulatingly salty and frisky finish with grip and tension. A terrific 2018. Tasted from AP 919 in May 2019. (SR)

Vinous
Verbena-laced apple and white grapefruit on the nose project both candied and fresh aspects, setting the stage for a palate performance whose zest and penetrating brightness come as a surprise in the context of this vintage and collection. And yet, there is simultaneously an alluring (as well as more predictable) hint of textural creaminess. The long finish is tongue-tingling yet persistently rich in its evocation of apple and quince jellies. (DS)

K&L Notes
92 points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 09 19. The 2018er Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese was harvested at 97° Oechsle and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (92 g/l). It offers a flowery and aromatic nose of pink grapefruit, lime, herbal tea, almond cream and elderberry. The wine is quite compact and sweet on the palate. Ample juicy and sweet exotic fruits wrapped into moderate acidity make for a gently smooth feel in the finish. A more forceful structure emerges with airing, which helps buffer off the richness of the wine. This will need quite some time to integrate its richness but could ultimately exceed our expectations, especially as its structure shapes up. 2028-2048." (06/2019)
