2016 Adega de Penalva "Indigena" Tinto Dao

SKU #1460412

Perched above the Dão river itself as it snakes through its granite valleys, the Adega de Penalva is one of the leading cooperatives in the area, boasting around a thousand member growers. It’s important to note, though, that the average holding per member amounts to barely over a hectare. 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and 30% Jaen (Mencía). Hand-harvested, fully destemmed and aged in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tank.

This juice is so easy and uncomplicated. Anise, leather and blue berry are all over the nose, then the fruit moves towards red on the palate, with bright, high tone cherry notes over the recurring fresh leather. Exceptional value, and can go with a wide variety of food. This is the Portuguese answer to Cotes-du-Rhone and can slot into your weekly rotation wonderfully.

Inviting tones of poached plums, black fig, ripe black cherry, and black raspberry intermingle with complexities of mulling spices, violets, sandalwood, and black tea in this charming blend from the Dão region of central Portugal. The woodsy spice notes of the 30% Jaen (Mencia in Spain) really shine through. Medium-bodied, harmonious, genteel, silky textured, and extremely well priced, it's a perfect choice for casual dinners and gatherings with friends. Undeniably delicious, and over-delivering at the price.
