The Scacciadiavoli 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino (with 35,000 bottles made) opens to a dark garnet color with saturated ruby highlights. The bouquet comes forward with intensity, ushering forth purple and black fruit with lots of tangy spice spanning from clove and cinnamon to cardamom and saffron. The wine is fermented in cone-shaped casks and aged in oak botte for two years. The tannins leave their mark, and this cool-vintage Sagrantino is best served with braised or grilled meats as a result. (ML) (10/2019)
Scacciadiavoli (‘throw out the devil’) was named after a local exorcist. This wine has a traditional, structured feel to it – firm tannins and mouthwatering acidity, with notes of tar and sweet spice. A producer whose wines age really well. (1/2019)
