2018 Natenadze Wines "Meskhuri" Red Meskheti Republic of Georgia

SKU #1452732

Giorgi Natenadze forages grapes in the volcanic soils of the Meskheti region located in the southwest of Georgia. The vines are growing wild and range from 200-400 years of age. The Red is a blend of one white and two red grape varieties - Meskhuri Sapere, Meskhuri kharistvala (Bull’s eye red), Tskhenis dzudzu tetri (Horse breast white) - aged all in Qvevri. A superbly unique and fascinating red that feels somewhere between a Cru Beaujolais and a Georgian Saperavi. Tremendous fun! *Natural Wine*

This wine is SPECTACULAR!!! Such an approachable wine with notes of cherry cola, cherry syrup, cherry everything, and also Indian black tea, from Assam and mocha. If you are a big fan of Cru Beaujolais (Morgon), you'll really love this wine. Gamay-ish with a limestone backbone. Tannins and grip. A lovely bottle of wine that's super approachable and relatable.

This wine speaks so much to my geeky wine heart, and it has everything I want in a funky lighter red. Flavors of wild cherry and dried herbs, I almost thought this was a pinot. Coming from 200-400 year old vines in the Republic of Georgia, the Meskhuri red is overall a friggin' cool wine, and something for anyone who is into geeky old old old world wine and even the natty wine love will find something to love as well.
