Knob Creek Single Barrel Select K&L Exclusive Barrel (Distilled 10/14/04, Warehouse I, Floor 4, Rick 19) Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)

SKU #1452707

Rumor is that these 15+ year old Knob Creek barrels have all disappeared. Clearly that isn't so. We locked down as many as we possibly could for the holiday season. Now, as to whether we will ever see the likes of these again, that's another story. Beam is pretty coy about exactly what ends up in the Knob Creek Single Barrel program or how much old whisky is available for it, but it's certainly some excellent juice and much older than the 9 year age statement the single barrel program is purportedly drawing from. Distilled 10/14/04 the label somewhat misleadingly gives a "selected on date" of 8/4/19. Unfortunately, they won't confirm the actual bottling date, but given that these barrels didn't show up until December, it's a good bet they officially crossed the 15 year mark before being bottled. If they didn't they only missed by a tiny margin, and what's a few days when you don't actually put an age statement on the bottle?

Slightly darker than its sister barrels, this barrel from floor 4 smells deep and rich. There is a strong wood profile on the nose mixed in with intense cherry. It feels wide on the palate — decadent is a good word for it. Tons of sweet caramel and it holds its proof exceedingly well. If you tasted it blind, you'd never guess its 60% ABV. With water the more herbal side shows a lot. There is a complex bay laurel note to the finish that is beautiful.
