2017 Maison Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet

SKU #1451327 92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Fermented and aged in wood, this is a rich wine. Its spice, ripe pineapple and mango flavors and dense texture show intense freshness as well as layers of toast, a complex texture and a short aging potential. Drink from 2021. (RV) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark The velvety texture of this white is an ideal vehicle for the peach, hazelnut, baking spice and pastry flavors. Remains focused and long, courtesy of the lemony acidity. Drink now through 2024. Inner quote mark (1/2019)

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A much more elegant nose reflects notes of acacia blossom white peach, essence of spiced pear and hints of mandarin and oak. There is fine richness to the generously proportioned but well-focused medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a driving, linear and bone dry finish that offers excellent depth and persistence. This is a fine Puligny villages. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding* Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Village opens in the glass with a youthfully reticent bouquet of white peach, Meyer lemon and spring flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural palate with ripe but racy acids, a pretty core of fruit and good grip on the finish. There appears to be a touch more cut and structure here than is found in the house's village level efforts from Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault. The 2017 is a great success for Olivier Leflaive and the house's able winemaker Franck Grux. While the scale of this important négociant house sometimes wins it short shrift from Burgundy collectors, the truth of the matter is found in the glass. The whole range this year is very solid indeed, and with Leflaive's "Récolte du Domaine" range, Grux has evidently pulled out all the stops to produce wines that can confound the prejudices of even the most skeptical. Many of these bottlings are derived from Olivier Leflaive's share of the Domaine Leflaive vineyards, which only recently reverted to him, and these cuvées in particular are worth every effort to seek out. K&L Notes

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Good lemon and lime colour. The nose is very classic, fresh and floral but evidently ripe and a suggestion of depth to follow. While accessible there is good intensity too, some biscuit barrel notes follow on, but a pleasing nuance rather than a distraction. Does its job very nicely. Perhaps too much on the fruit rather than the flesh. Tasted: October 2018."
