2017 Chateau de la Charriere Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune

SKU #1444944

Château de la Charrière is one of our most popular direct import producers and a label that easily represents the best bang for your buck we carry in Burgundy. Formerly run by Yves Girardin, the business is now run by his young son Benoit, who definitely has modernized the winemaking a bit since his first vintage in 2011. Whereas the wines were a bit funky and rustic previously, the past few vintages are much cleaner, they now showcase the pureness of the Pinot Noir by de-stemming completely so as to remove tannic structure. The 2015 vintage and beyond represent their best wines to date, in our opinion.

The new vintage is here and yes, it's better than ever! This is a wine with youthful approachability, packed with bright, juicy cherry and strawberry fruits and hints of the wild outdoors. There is well-defined tannic and acidic structure here too. The Hautes-Côtes de Beaune has more old vine fruit, the vines average 60+ years. This is a fabulous Pinot Noir and it's only $20.

As we step into the uneasy times of the tariffs I was afraid we would stop seeing the screaming deals on really great red burgundy that we are lucky enough to have often here at K&L. I needed not fear as Chateau de la Charrier has delivered another fabulous bottle at an insane price! The nose is all cherries, violet, and fresh earth; it really is an intoxicating nose. The palate is light to medium bodies with tart cherry, savory notes of soy and tea, and an elegant purple flowered finish that carries on far longer than Pinots at this price point have any right to. It's mouthwatering, lightly tannic, and has a long life ahead of it if you're so inclined to wait. But my advice? Buy it in bulk, drink it without remorse, and save a couple bottles for down the road because it is delicious!
