Despite overall high altitudes at Volpaia, some of the lower lying vineyards were damaged by the late April frost. Along with the drought conditions, this resulted in a reduction of 30-35% of the estate's average production. Up front raspberry notes are joined by a touch of mint which adds intrigue. This gains some definition as it sits in the glass and palate is juicy with a supple texture and balanced ripeness. (MM) (2/2019)
Mid ruby. Concentrated marasca cherry nose with minerally hints. Plenty of concentrated cherry fruit with a tangy edge, and with rich tannins matched by the concentrated fruit on the finish. (WS) (2/2019)
The 2017 Chianti Classico offers a pretty succession of forest fruit aromas, cassis and dried raspberry with spice, tar and light shades of smoke on the close. This is an easy, light to medium-weight wine to pair with fried chicken wings. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. (ML) (9/2019)
