2018 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru "Perrieres" (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1440017 95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Les Perrières, located close to the border with Meursault at the bottom of the slope, often seems to show more minerality at Carillon. True to form, this 0.6ha parcel has produced a zesy, crunchy, saline Puligny with some tangerine and citrus fruit and a hint of quince. Drinking Window 2020 - 2027. (TA) Inner quote mark (10/2018)

Outer quote mark The 2017 Perrières from Jacques Carillon is a bit more reserved out of the blocks than the Champs Canet, but everything here seems just a touch more precise and pure as well and in due course, this is going to be even a shade better. The bouquet delivers a fine, fairly primary blend of apple, white peach, a hint of pink grapefruit, chalky minerality, vanillin oak and a youthful topnote of lemon peel. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and tightly-knit, with a superb core of fruit, excellent mineral drive, bright, snappy acids and excellent cut and grip on the long and beautifully balanced finish. 2023-2060. Outer quote mark A pungent yet elegant nose reflects notes of mineral reduction, citrus, quinine and a whiff of oak toast. The even sleeker and more tightly would middle weight flavors brim with minerality as well as plenty of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm acid spine shaping the linear and highly persistent finish. This needs more depth but the underlying material is present for that to occur. Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is also unusually textural and immediate this year, bursting with aromas of warm bread, honeycomb, crisp orchard fruit and lemon oil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with succulent acids and an open-knit, giving profile. (WK) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

90-92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Sexy aromas of pineapple, pear and flowers are complemented by salty minerality. At once rich and vibrant, showing a fine-grained texture and noteworthy purity to its intense citrus fruit and saline flavors. A bit higher in acidity than most of the other 2017s at this address (4.0 grams per liter, vs. 3.8 to 3.9), this premier cru finishes with very good structure, length and thrust.(ST) Inner quote mark (1/2018)

K&L Notes

93pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "A fine light bright pale colour. The nose is less floral than Champs Canet and suggests a bit more weight. Fruit begins to emerge though, and where this wine wins is in the kick of concentrated white fruit which appears at the back of the palate in a substantial block. Then a more tingling finish with some youthful bitterness which will resolve without difficulty. Tasted: October 2018."
