K&L Notes

Poggiarellino is a small property in the north of Montalcino and is not far from Altesino, they started making wine with the 1996 vintage and slowly grew their production, K&L started importing their wine with the 2000 vintage. Their Brunello di Montalcino production is usually about 450 cases to 500 cases and about half of that number for the Rosso di Montalcino. The Brunello is aged in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels and the Rosso di Montalcino is aged in stainless steel tanks.

The nose of this wine is complex, a combination of earth, dried, marasca cherries, saddle leather, bits of porcini and wild herbs. It is a graceful nose; it does not explode but it is not shy either it is penetrating, enlivening your senses. On the palate the flavors echo the same character of the nose just adding a bit of brick dust, cola all in a savory flow. There is a lot of length, persistence and the finish does not seem to, just long, tongue coating richness full of savory deliciousness. A real delight to drink, perfect for you BBQ-ed meats or complex pastas.

Savory and elegant with softer tannins after few hours of decanting. It's very charming wine showing lovely earthy notes, hints of black tea and cedar. I like the smooth and subtle red fruit of it with just right amount of acidity to carry it on to the bright finish. Great value Brunello!

I think this ranks among the more successful 2014 Brunellos and we are able to offer it at an exceptional price. This small, family owned estate definitely rose to the occasion and crafted an impressive Sangiovese with fragrant, spiced red fruit and plenty of stuffing on the palate. Certainly more than we were expecting. We think you'll not want to miss this as it's certainly one of the best values of the 2014 vintage from Montalcino!

This user friendly 2014 has big and bright fruit that hit you first, black cherries cassis and ripe strawberries and then the terroir takes on the rest of this wine, giving it a long finish that lingers long on the palate. Drinks very well young and will over the next couple of years.
