2017 Domaine Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos Saint-Jean"

SKU #1437937 94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Lush and viscous, yet seamlessly balanced by its lively acidity, this white should bring a lot of pleasure for its peach, butter pastry, toasted vanilla and hazelnut flavors. Harmonious and long, with all its elements melding on the long aftertaste. (BS) Inner quote mark (9/2019)

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A relatively pungent nose reflects notes of lemon rind, quine, resin, apple and pretty floral-suffused aromas. There is excellent volume to the attractively textured and notably more concentrated middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the balanced, clean and dry finish. This too is really quite good and a wine that should age well. *Outstanding* Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Bottled. More evident oak on the nose compared with the Chassagne village wine but well judged. There’s a little more breadth on the palate too and a long, almost biting, spicy finish. (JH) 16.5/20 Inner quote mark (1/2019)

K&L Notes

91 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "This plot, originally pinot noir, was bought in 1985, pulled out and replanted in white. The vineyard has lots of small stones and not much topsoil, making for a very primary white wine. Up front white fruit, medium bodied, with good acidity behind, a touch of youthful bitterness. There is enough energy to merit 1er cru status in white. Tasted: October 2018."
