The beautiful northern coast of Scotland is home to several of the world's best single malt distillers and the wonderfully tiny Dunnet Bay Distillery. Located in Caithness county on the very northern tip of the mainland Scotland, Dunnet Bay Distillery is Scotland's most northern. Founded by Martin and Claire Murray in 2014, they've been committed to distilling a uniquely Scottish gin from local botanicals. Their flagship gin uses 18 botanicals several of which are grown or collected locally. Named for one of the key botanicals, the indigenous Rock Rose (Rhodiola rosea), is harvested appropriately from the rocky cliffs of the Pentland Firth. Over a thousand years ago, the Vikings explored the wild exposed cliffs to gather Rhodiola rosea (rose root). This was thought to give them the extra strength to continue on their long arduous journeys. Other local ingredients include the vibrant and juicy Sea Buckthorn and the brilliant red fruit of the mountain ash - Rowan Berry. These special Scottish plants are vapor-infused in the neck of their custom-built John Dore still, Elizabeth. Also in the basket are two types of juniper, blaeberry, cardamom, coriander, verbena and many more special botanicals. The result is one of the most delicate and complex gins we've ever carried. It offers a wonderful balance between subtle floral, bright citrus and warming spice. Bottled in an unforgettable ceramic package, Rock Rose is one of the finest in the current great wave of Scottish gins.
