2007 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits.-Saint Georges

SKU #1435546 Allen Meadows - Burghound

A very fresh and unusually complex nose that is layered and broad offers up ripe dark fruit and slightly animale aromas that introduce round, supple and solidly detailed middle weight flavors that are supported by firm tannins that are notably finer than what I'm used to seeing with this wine. This is very Nuits in character. (1/2010)

The 2007 Nuits AC from Domaine Gouges is a fine bottle of village wine that is already quite approachable and quite reflective of the more forward and accessible style that the domaine has begun making both their Bourgogne and the villages bottling in, with an eye towards a bit of accommodation to the needs of restaurants. The wine is excellent, as it offers up scents of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, gentle notes of gamebirds, a touch of nutskin and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is fullish, long, complex and succulent, with modest tannins, lovely focus and fine length and grip. A classy bottle of Nuits AC. (Drink between 2010-2025) (1/2010)

Good dark red. Ripe medicinal cherry aroma with a hint of game. Supple and fruity, with good stuffing to the ripe flavors of blackberry and blueberry. Surprisingly tannic for village wine, even a bit rustic on the back end. (ST) (3/2010)

Wine & Spirits

A dark, concentrated Nuits, this is awkward in its youth. The tart cherry fruit has a sanguine edge, bloody and black. For now, the sulfur is still an issue, though the wine should absorb that with bottle age. (10/2010)
