2014 Louise Brison Brut Champagne

SKU #1434746 91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Fermented and aged in wood, this Champagne is still young but is showing fine potential. The wine's acidity gives it a crisp texture and brings out the citrus and green-apple flavors along with the nervy edge. It will certainly age, so wait to drink until 2022. K&L Notes

This Champagne was made in the most expensive way possible. The entire Brison estate is organic, and the wine is entirely barrel fermented. No detail is forgotten in making the vintage wines here, as the owner, Delphine Brulez, has a diploma in oenology. Only because of a direct buy are we able to offer a Champagne like this at such a fair price! -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

This Brison Brut packs unexpected flavor from an undersung vintage. All organic, this is a great fresh-tasting Champagne loaded with Granny Smith apples, hay, and herbal scents. The palate is zippy and chalky with pleasant grapefruit and yellow fruit notes. But then it unfolds into an elegant richness with excellent nutty flavors, all before coming to a crisp and tidy finish.

If there's a Champagne that lives up to the ideal of a family business, it's Louise Brison. Now run by winemaker Delphine Brulez (some of you may remember her and her lovely mother from the 2019 Champagne Tent Event), the winery has been in the family for generations, and the care and expertise really comes through in the glass. 50-50 Chardonnay-Pinot Noir, this is a balanced Champagne, perfect for indecisive palates or gifts. It's elegant and well-crafted enough to impress connoisseurs but easygoing for parties. Cherry-fruited and citrusy, with texture, the Louise Brison Brut is also one of the few 2014s we have in stock. And the quality for the price is unbelievable. Want something crisp? Check. Good fruit? Check. Vivid acid? Check. Barrel-aged? Check. Years on the lees? Check. Good vintage? Check. Organic? Check. Do not wait on this value-driven stunner.

This is a lovely Champagne that is focused, classic and delicious. It is absolutely fantastic and is complex with a depth of flavors. It is big, full and dry, with a subtle nut like notes. What really completes the package and helps make it so tasty is the clean, crisp and refreshing finish.

Biodynamic. Organic. Vintage. Barrel fermented. Champagne. For $35. We are letting you rob us. The 2014 vintage was the type of year that has become increasingly rare in Champagne - a long cool even growing season that allowed ripeness and acidity to naturally develop in tandem. Full bodied, creamy, clean, fresh style, with excellent toasty aromas, citrus, green apple, red cherry, with a long dry finish. An outstanding bottle of vintage champagne at an outstanding price!

While Champagnes are in different styles and appeal to different palates, I've found this Louise Brison Brut to be something that everyone can enjoy so far. The nose is rich and slightly lees-y, with generous fruit and the palate is clean and crisp with a delicious driving acidity and minerality that make this an absolutely incredible value. I'm astounded again and again at the quality of wines that we have here at K&L and the affordability of them. Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of this, or better yet a case!

When I visited the Aube last May, the star of the show for me was this 2014 Louise Brison Brut Champagne. Composed of half each Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and dosed at 3 grams per liter, it comes across as perfectly balanced, dry style Champagne. This vintage, which had a cool, long, even growing season, is an endangered species in a warming region. The Chardonnay minerality of the Aube is strong in this wine, with clean earth like the best of Chablis. It also has a great Rainier cherry component and subtle sourdough toast aromas. This is lovely, lively, long finishing Champagne that tastes great now, but will age effortlessly for decades.

Not commonly done for such a modestly priced Champagne, this 50/50 Pinot Noir, Chardonnay split is both fermented and aged in barrel. This organic beauty is nervy and fraught with layer upon layer of citrus fruits, crunchy Granny Smith apple, and a subtle toasty character. This finishes long with an incessant mineral-laden finish, keeping you wanting more and more.

Few winemakers in Champagne achieve the elegance that Delphine Brulez' wines show for such a low price. Her wine is made from half Pinot Noir, half Chardonnay, made in neutral oak barrels to add softness and texture, then rests on the lees for at least 6 years. Beautiful pear, green apple, and ranier cherry intermingle with subtle spice, minerals and rich creaminess for a stellar vintage champagne experience at a low price.

A collector bottle, the winemaker trained in dijon with a master's in winemaking. This organically grown and barrel fermented brut is an excellent purchase for any occasion. Ready to drink now, this staff favorite is hard to keep in stock. At $34.99 it's a steal and well worth above it's price tag. Let this be your "go to" bubbly as you stock the cellar. Cheers!

This is the best of Brison! It's rich, round and full bodied. Barrel fermenting added more complexity. Keep an eye out for the 2014 vintages — they're coming in a big way soon.

The 2014 Louise Brison Brut is bright and fresh, and an incredible deal for vintage Champagne. It's made with all organic fruit that is barrel fermented in used Burgundy barrels from a vintage that was cool and long, giving this wine optimal aging potential. Citrus, pear, lees, and mineral notes are shown in this wine with a nice crisp, dry finish. Tusk this in your cellar for a few years and your taste buds will thank you.

Vintage champagne under forty dollars isn't really a thing, and good vintage champagne under forty dollars certainly isn't. That we have an option that is both affordable, delicious, and has the highest level of detail put into its production is ridiculous, and a testament to our champagne buyer's connections in the area. This is a really pleasant bottle of wine for light dishes now, but will payback patience with even better showings in five plus years.
