An exceptional offering from a new winemaker that is on track for major successes, this is the new store standard for American Pinots anywhere near this price point. I'm not trying to sound grandiose, this bottle simply over delivers on too many fronts to be seriously challenged. An exceptionally modern domestic offering with classic roots, this isn't your Dad's California Pinot. Cruchy, tight, light and refreshing, this is as crushable as Pinot gets. The airy structure belays its complexity, with a phenomenal meaty, red fruit nose transitioning to a palate that's loaded with springtime garigue and spicy fruits.

What a nose on this. Gorgeous notes of cranberry, cherry, and strawberry come raging out of the glass here, along with great fruity followup on the palate. Incredibly smooth, soft and supple while gushing with red fruit, this is a lot of great Pinot for the price.

This is a must try Pinot Noir. We’ve had some amazing success already with several wines from Seabold / Bold Wine Co. The Monterey Pinot is possibly the most versatile wine out of winemaker Chris Millers portfolio. Along with the bright red cherry aroma there’s also a tough of smoke on the nose. On the palate you get bright, crunchy, red apple and just a hint of cranberry and wood spice. This may be the perfect Thanksgiving dinner red. Is it too early?

I loved the rusticity of this wine. It's not polished to within and inch of its life and nothing is added to mask the flavors of the fruit. This is a pure expression of fruit and site. Bright and expressive, this is a great everyday offering, with just a touch of savory, dusky tannin to take it from porch wine to the dinner table.

The nose of this wine is fresh, bright with an earthy, stemmy aromatic that serves as complexity. On the palate this wine shows medium plus body, lots of richness and lives up to the label in Boldness. This isn’t a sweet, fruit filled Pinot, this wine is for those who are looking for more savory, earthy character and with that it delivers beyond its’ price point. Good tannins, power, and lots of intrigue if you want to get out of the sweetish California Pinot Parade, this is your wine.

This 2017 Monterey Pinot offers the perfect blend of sweet, cherry fruit and savory tones. Its modest nose belies the broad range of flavors this Chris Miller charmer delivers. Bay leaf, dark chocolate, smoke, and Porcini mushroom all make an appears and to pleasing effect. Perhaps most captivating is its smooth and supple delivery with the wine gliding with ease across the palate. There's a distinctly Burgundian quality, adding a level of gravitas not commonly found in a wine at this price. This is easily one of the finer value-priced Pinots on the market.

Who said you can't find legit, delicious Pinot Noir under $20!? This bottle is very serious for the money. Classically cool climate styled, crunchy berry fruits, leaf litter, sous bois, dusty spices. Bright and juicy on the palate with fresh acidity and great length. Unfined, unfiltered, very authentic, contemporary California Pinot Noir executed for a steal of a price point. Measures up well against good Bourgogne Rouge or a village wine like Savigny-Lès-Beaune or Marsannay with that slightly wild, earthy, red fruited profile. Food friendly and versatile; a great new "house wine" for lovers of cool climate Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spätburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In recent years, New Zealand has demonstrated its ability to interpret this hard-to-grow varietal, with successful bottlings coming from careful and attentive growers in Central Otago, Martinborough and Canterbury. Chile is also an up-and-coming region for Pinot Noir, creating fresh, fruit-forward, early-drinking and affordable Pinots from the coastal Casablanca Valley and the Limari Valley.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.


- With the explosive growth that California's wine industry has seen the past several years, it's easy to view winemaking and grape growing in the Golden State as a recent phenomenon. And while it's true that California's viticultural history is brief compared to several European countries, this state's roots date back well over 200 years. Due to the enormous response to California wine within the United States and worldwide, there are thousands of excellent and diverse wines being produced within the state each year.

- These heavily planted regions on either side of the vast Salinas Valley account for much of the mass-produced, commercial wine sold in supermarkets nationwide. In the hills, however, and in sub-AVAs like Chalone and Santa Lucia Highlands, quality is much higher. Pinot noir and chardonnay look to be particularly promising.
