2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne

SKU #1431174 96 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. It’s relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity. *Top Cellar Selections 2019* (RV) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

95 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is a solid and very dense Champagne with a phenolic and rich texture. Layers of cooked apples and light lemon rind. Brioche and light pie-crust in the aftertaste. Fresh and relatively dry aftertaste. Inner quote mark (7/2019)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that was disgorged with eight grams per liter dosage, the 2008 Brut Millésimé is showing nicely today, unwinding in the glass with aromas of green apple, pear, orange oil, spices and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, with tangy acids and a pillowy mousse, it concludes with a penetrating finish. This is aging very gracefully. (WK) Inner quote mark (3/2021)

93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2008 Brut Millésimé is a gorgeous wine that expresses all of the pedigree of the vintage beautifully. Complex and nuanced, with tons of class, the 2008 has so much to offer. Dried pear, mint, chamomile, crushed rock, dried flowers and pastry overtones are all laced together in this finely-knit, resonant Champagne. At $75.00 a bottle, Laurent-Perrier’s Brut Millésimé is one the best widely available vintage Champagne readers find from this historic harvest. (AG) Inner quote mark (7/2019)

93 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark A finely knit Champagne, defined by well-cut acidity that frames notes of Asian pear, white cherry, slivered almond and fleur de sel. The mousse shows a lovely creamy viscosity. Hints of citrus and spice emerge on the finish. (AN) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

91 points Decanter

Outer quote mark It was a long growing season in 2008, with nothing excessive or unusual, and it has engendered wines of complexity and impressive length. Disgorged in July 2018 with 8g of sugar, this is a wonderfully poised blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. Generous of colour and with forward toasty aromas, the wine is thereafter softer, more refined and elegant, with grapefruit notes ceding to a bed of dried almonds and summer flowers. Michel maintains that the Chardonnay is in the ascendant at the moment but, with time, emerging biscuity and savoury elements will be down to the latent power of the Pinot Noir. (SF) Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Greenish gold. Very fine bead. Attractive mixture of ripeness and smokiness on the nose. Extremely different from the easy 2007. Fauconnet thinks this tastes as though it’s all Chardonnay because of the austerity of the vintage. I wouldn’t actually describe it as austere. Fine-boned, rather, with lots of fruit. Tense but fine with lots to chew on. Much richer than the Blanc de Blancs. 17.5/20 points (JR) Inner quote mark (6/2019)

This vintage is deliciously complex. A blend of equal parts Chardonnay, and Pinot noir plus at this price point you cannot go wrong. The orchard fruit of apple and green pear in addition to a subtle almond mousse and brioche. This has just the right amount of tangy, bright finish and lush florals. this is sure to please the most discerning palate.

The greatest vintage Champagne that I have ever had from Laurent-Perrier! I first tasted this in Tours-sur-Marne with chef de cave Michel Fauconnet and filled my notebook up with exclamation points. He said that the job of a vintage wine is to express the year, and he has expressed the 2008—the best vintage in at least a generation—perfectly. This Champagne is all about length, chalky minerality, and scintillating refreshment. The finish is nearly infinite on this wine that shows much more like a blanc de blanc in spite of the half Pinot Noir in the blend. Don't miss out on the best vintage ever from one of the great grande marque houses!

This gorgeous vintage brut by Laurent-Perrier has been much anticipated, as it was released behind other grand marques, with reason. 2008 is a sharp, tightly-wound vintage, and while it will prove to be one of the best in years, the wines benefit from a bit longer aging. This has more chalk than we usually see expressed in L-P’s Champagnes, thanks to 50% Chardonnay, although there is a rich undertone of berried Pinot Noir as well. Fresh with minerality and complex through the palate, the 2008 Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne also shows an extraordinarily long, dry (8g dosage) finish. I was a big fan of their 2007 release, but this vintage outshines even that beauty.

This 2008 vintage bottling from Laurent-Perrier hits big with bright citrus, a little fresh dough, Granny Smith apples, and Bartlett pears. The palate is just as bold as the nose boasting bracing acid that’s mouth-puckering, crisp apple, and lemon drop candies. Very sexy Champagne.

As a staff we had a chance to taste with our Laurent-Perrier rep not long ago, but at the time they didn't have an '08 for us to try. Given how spectacular the year was an how the other wines were showing I couldn't wait to get my hands on a sample and was not disappointed! A 50/50 split of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and made of entirely Grand Cru fruit the wine shows beautifully with notes of lemon meringue, grapefruit and vanilla. The palate is just the right balance of acid with hints of graham cracker, bright citrus, and a wonderfully long finish. Wine like this will only get better with age so make sure you get some before it's gone!

A great example of a 2008 champagne! Toasty and nutty aromas followed by bright green apples, almonds and focused acid. With all Grand Cru fruit, this Laurent Perrier bottling is not to miss at this price.

Quite simply the best Laurent Perrier I've ever tasted, this is exactly what collectors have been promised by the extraordinary 2008 vintage. Happy floral and pom fruit notes on the nose with an complex palete of dark fruit and bread pudding around tight pear and firm minerality. Grand Cru's deliver.

A wonderful Grand Cru sourced from ALL of the Grand Cru vineyards, this 2008 vintage LP is a rock star of a champagne. Amazingly crisp palate, vibrant lemon peel, peach skin and big voluptuous bubbles give the perfect set up for a sexy long finish.
