2018 Honorío Rubio "Macerado" Blanco Rioja

SKU #1430931

Honorío Rubio is a Riojano white wine specialist. In a land best known for its incredibly age-worthy reds, among many die-hards out there it is undoubtedly the traditional whites that represent Rioja's finest and most original wines. These days, outside of Lopez de Heredia (whose whites are increasingly difficult to find) and the odd older bottles of Ygay Blanco, traditional white Rioja is tough to find. That's why we are so excited to be selling the wines of our newest DI producer, Honorío Rubio. Based in the high altitude Rioja Alta village of Cordovín, Honorío Rubio has spectacular Viura and Malvasa vine holdings, and chooses to turn them into classic, traditional white Rioja. Or in the case of his "maceración" bottling....orange wine?? Yes, orange wine. Despite it's maceration on the skins for the better part of a year, though, this is not orange wine of the chewy and tannic variety. It is unapologetically unique, though, with intense tangy apricot flavors and acidity that borders on fierce. Not for the faint of heart, this is a wholly original take on white Rioja.
