2014 Immortal Estate (Hidden Ridge) "Slope" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1429787 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark As for the 2014s, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Slope from the Hidden Ridge vineyard does not suffer in comparison with the extraordinary efforts of 2013. Still a barrel sample, its riveting richness, concentration, texture and density represent another legend in the making. Crème de cassis, licorice, blackberry, earthiness and spice are all present in this magnificent example of Cabernet Sauvignon that should age beautifully for 25-30+ years. When I first started doing my centralized tastings of the many wineries that I could not possibly have time to visit, one of the remarkable standouts for Cabernet Sauvignon was Hidden Ridge. These are clearly world-class Cabernet Sauvignons and should be considered by any serious collector for their cellars. (RP) 95-97+ Inner quote mark (4/2016)

Outer quote mark The 2014 Slope checks in as a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Petit Verdot and it spent 27 months in 75% new French oak. It has a rich, opulent style as well as lifted notes of currants, plums, violets, tobacco, and forest floor. It's deep, full-bodied, has beautiful purity, and a rounded, lush, yet quintessential Sonoma minerality and freshness. Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Outer quote mark From the former site of Hidden Ridge Vineyard, Slope is indeed from a 55-degree slope, the site near the Spring Mountain border. A sweetness of vanilla and cinnamon give it a richness met by viscous, smoothly jammy red and black cherry, finishing with a touch of texture. (VB) Inner quote mark (11/2019)

K&L Notes

Immortal Estate is an evolution of the Hidden Ridge Vineyard, and the Immortal team (Randy Nichols, Tim Martin, and Timothy Milos) brings their passion and extensive expertise in wine-making to their vision – to create truly “Immortal” wines. Winery note: "The 2014 Immortal Slope represents the many aspects, elevations and exposures of the remarkable hillside site. Individual lots from across the property were selected and blended to produce this august cuvée. The wine is dense, ripe and powerful, an effusive vortex of blackberry, toast, brown sugar, allspice, cassis, dark chocolate, earl grey tea, mint, anise, sugar cookie, chai, and tarragon. The palate is massive, but fruit sweet, supple and creamy. It is an experience that will bring you to the mountain, for there is no other place like this."

This wine, getting 95-97 points from Parker, is big on stewed fruits of plum and blackberry compote, hefty oak, toasted spices (clove, star anise), and a measured hand of perfumed floral notes. The palate is high-toned, nice’n’juicy, and finishing with some crispy spice. It’s got luscious texture and density made of pure decadence.
