2015 Farella Estate Coombsville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1429215 95 points Vinous

Farella's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is super-polished, elegant and refined. Bright floral/savory notes and silky tannins add complexity to a core of blue and purplish berry fruit in this expressive, wonderfully nuanced Cabernet. All the elements fall into place. Quite simply, this is a stunning wine, especially within the context of the year. Drink through 2030. (AG) (12/2018)

94 points Wine Spectator

Dark and winey, with steeped black currant, fig and blackberry fruit flavors, inlaid liberally with smoldering charcoal and sweet tobacco notes. Anise and tar details score the finish, adding length and range to the depth and energy. Best from 2021 through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 257 cases made. (JM) (6/2019)

93 points James Suckling

In spite of its excellent ripeness, offering the whole spectrum of black-fruit aromas, as well as generous, supple tannins, this Napa red retains poise and the delicate hint of sweetness is just enough to make it caressing on the palate. Long, polished finish. Drink or hold. (2/2019)

K&L Notes

Winery note: "The 2015 vintage was the third in a string of remarkable vintages. Smaller fruit sets brought on by a fifth year of drought yielded small tight clusters with thick skins. The 2015s from Farella are dark and full of power, with high acid and high tannic structure and a promise to age for decades. Wine Details: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate vineyard in the heart of the Coombsville AVA. The Cabernet components are from our Old Vine, Rockpile and TBud blocks which are positioned on a fairly steep slope facing due west. For the moderate temperatures of Coombsville, the exposure to the late afternoon sun, a key to the inherent richness and slow development of color & tannin. Vines age from 22-39 years. Cases produced: 257."

This lovely Coombsville Cabernet has great aromas of violets and cassis. On the pallet I get blue and black fruit, licorice and dark chocolate. This wine has great structure and texture with grippy tannin and a long lasting finish.

This is a deep, dark, heavy Cabernet fit for your next Goth party with a nose of intense baking spice, black fruit, and heady floral aromatics. The palate smacks of blueberry, bramble berries, graphite, spicebox, and strong tannic grip. Beautiful and focused, with 95 points from Vinous.

This is dynamite Cabernet by any measure. A perfectly struck balance of power and precision. This beautiful wine from Farella combines the richness and concentration of Napa Valley with the freshness, structure and length of great Paulliac. Coming from the oldest Cabernet vines in the area (planted in the late 1970s) and from one of the cooler sub-regions of Napa, this is highly aromatic wine with crushed violets, blue fruit, cassis, pencil shavings, graphite and sandalwood. Medium plus bodied but long and linear rather than thick and broad. No excessive extraction or jamminess here; the mouthfeel is akin to polished, modern Bordeaux. A powerful, structured wine with great ageing potential, purity and poise. Very serious wine...one I hope others in the valley can emulate...this is Napa Cab done very well - bravo!
Top Value! Drink from 2021 to 2041
