2017 Domaine de l'Arlot Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Clos des Forêts St-Georges"

SKU #1428876 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Offering up a deep bouquet of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and spices, the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a textural attack, melting tannins, ripe acids and a deep core of sapid fruit. The finish is impressively long and nicely defined. Deeper and fleshier than the more ethereal Clos d'Arlot, this will blossom with a little bottle age, but it's sufficiently elegant and expressive to be approachable sooner. Outer quote mark This shows some breadth and an underlying earthiness to the black cherry, iron and leafy tobacco flavors. The tannins are dense, yet well-integrated. Persistent and juicy on the spicy finish. Inner quote mark (8/2019)

91-93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint-Georges is completely de-stemmed, unlike the Clos de l’Arlot, partly because of the analysis that suggested it should include stems. It has a very pure bouquet, a little more opulent than the Clos de l’Arlot, featuring black cherry, blueberry and light floral scents. The smooth, rounded palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and denser than the Clos de l’Arlot, but then again, maybe the Clos de l’Arlot has more personality. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2019)

Outer quote mark (from an enormous 7.1 ha monopole planted in the early 1950s). Not surprisingly, the aromatic profile is quite similar to that of the Cuvée Hors Ligne. There is good size, weight and muscle to the solidly dense middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a markedly serious, mouthcoating and sneaky long if mildly edgy finish. This too is very clearly built to age but it’s not overly austere; with that said, this is clearly going to require extended patience and in particular to round out the finish. K&L Notes

91-94 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Rich dense purple, much darker than the Clos de l’Arlot. The nose seems oakier too, though both wines have 40% new wood. I don’t pick up stems on the nose but they help freshen up the mid palate and indeed the finale. Géraldine now tells me that there were no stems included! This is a little closer to people’s general idea of Nuits, albeit with the elegance of Premeaux and the style of the domaine. Lovely bright aftertaste with good acidity. The low yield explains the concentration. Tasted: November 2018."
