2017 Marco Carpineti Moro Lazio Bianco

SKU #1426423 91 points Vinous

Beautiful straw green. Enticing aromas and flavors of lime, guava, and orange oil plus a delicate note of sweet spices for added interest. Rich, but not as heavy-handed and over-oaky as some other recent vintages of Moro, this finishes long, bright and juicy. Clocks in at 14.5% alcohol but is so well-balanced you really cannot tell. 100% Greco Moro (the 2016 vintage was the last to have a little Greco Giallo, and I bemoan its loss). These vines are actually only 7-8 years old due to an intense recent replanting program, and this may account for some lime notes that are not due to an increase in thiol molecules (no excessive gooseberry and sage aromas and flavors). (ID) (6/2019)

K&L Notes

The Moro white wine is made from an ancient varietal that comes from the Greco family of grapes. It originally faded from production but has recently been loving cultivated by Marco Carpineti. This here-to-fore unknown wine is full-bodied with subtle notes of peach, almond and mineral with excellent acidity and overall freshness. It's a serious wine to be enjoyed with seafood, white meats and complex white sauced pastas.
