2018 Kalinda Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

SKU #1425209

The K&L Kalinda wines are consistently among the best values in our store. We work closely with top producers to bring you first-rate wine at reasonable prices. We can't reveal our sources, but we can say that this is a steal. It’s thanks to our long-standing friendship with such a producer that we’ve been able to create our 2018 Kalinda Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir from this AVA typically runs in the $30-$40 range, and this producer is particularly notable in the region. It’s a great opportunity for our customers. The quality jumps out of the glass at the first sip. The aromas are heady and rich with ripe summer cherries and a hint of cola. On the palate the wine has a pleasant, medium body with very soft, rounded tannin and a velvety feel. You’ll also note the sweet oak spice here—it’s not a wine that shies away from oak, but the oak is well incorporated and complements the rich red fruits beautifully. This is a classic Pinot Noir, speaking of its roots in the Santa Rita Hills. It’s a fine accompaniment to many weeknight dishes, but also delicious on its own, cocktail style, since it is quite complete in itself.

Sta Rita Hills is my absolute favorite region for domestic Pinot Noir. The fruit profile is unmistakable and the wines are a perfect trio of concentration, elegance and balance thanks to the area's proximity to the ocean, which blankets the vines in fog and cool ocean breezes. When I inquired about the producer responsible for this wine, the response I received from K&L top brass was just two simple words: Top Secret. This tells me whatever is in this bottle is going to be pretty damn good and whoever makes this under their own label is probably selling it at much higher price tag. This is lush fruit at its finest but the key is the acidity which keeps everything bright. I got a hit of orange on my first sip, the fruit is deep and red and there is a nice spicy quality to it, perhaps thanks to some oak, but not an overwhelming amount. This is dangerously delicious and as always, it sports that incredible Kalinda label value price point. My two-word opinion about this wine: Yeah baby.
