2017 Arterberry Maresh Dundee Hills Chardonnay

SKU #1424877 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark This is Jim Maresh's entry-level Chardonnay, barrel fermented and finished in stainless steel. It comes from Dijon 76 clone vines planted in 1991 on a steep, south-facing slope. The 2017 Dundee Hills Chardonnay has a lovely, open-knit nose of honeycomb, orange blossom, apple pie, crushed hazelnuts, clotted cream, baked peaches, hay and a unique umami-like undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, tethered by tangy acidity and a hint of phenolic texture, finishing long and nuanced with incredible tension and energy. Even this "village" level Chardonnay manages class and hedonism. This could use another couple of years in bottle at least. It's bottled under Diam 30 and should age well. 90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Gentle and demure, with delicately complex lemon and crushed stone accents, finishing on a clean, steely note. Drink now through 2021. (TF) Inner quote mark (9/2019)

K&L Notes

The "Dundee Hills" bottling is a blend of Maresh Estate and Weber. The Chardonnay from Maresh Vineyard is full, bright and complex with aromatics and flavors of yellow fruits, mineral richness of wet stones and honeycomb. This is a long evolving wine full of tension. There is a scant amount of 1983-planted Chardonnay at Weber, which is blended with Maresh and bottled as Dundee Hills Chardonnay.

Me and Kaj have talked time and time again that Oregon chardonnay is where it's at. And with the 2017 vintage of Arterberry Maresh, this proves our theory further. I mean holy hell, this bottle is delicious. Bright, and with an outstanding lemon curd flavor profile... this is easily one of my favorite white wines I've had this year. Worthy of a try, for the fellow chardonnay lover looking for something new.

Remember those green apple Jolly Rancher candies? Well, this Chardonnay smells just like those! Candied green apples on the nose. This follows through onto the palate with lemon meringue, orange and freshly squeezed limes. Neato! Totally clean and totally delicious!
