SKU #1424450 93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Aromas of blueberries and cedar with hints of dried flowers. Medium to full body. Tight, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Very linear and racy. Well done for the vintage. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (11/2019)

Outer quote mark Made with organically grown grapes and without added sulfites, this opens with aromas of wild berry, violet, tobacco and botanical herb. The elegant, austere palate offers black cherry, pomegranate and star anise alongside taut, refined tannins. Drink through 2023. (ML) Inner quote mark (4/2020)

90 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2017 Chianti Classico is a gorgeous, racy wine that melds together the natural richness of the year with the classic sense of mid-weight structure that is such a signature of this Radda estate. The 2017 is a bit richer and riper in feel than Monteraponi fans are used to, but it is impossible not to love the wine for its sheer deliciousness and approachability. Soft, silky tannins and lifted floral notes punctuate the finish. Best of all, the 2017 is a fabulous wine for the money. (AG) Inner quote mark (8/2019)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2017 Chianti Classico is a terrific expression, capturing the more elegant side of this hot vintage very well. Its color is darker and more statured compared to past vintages, and instead of the small forest berry and wild rose aromas that you usually get from Sangiovese from the higher-altitude vineyards of Radda in Chianti, this wine offers dark fruit with leather and scorched earth. You might notice that the tannin is a bit rougher and dryer here as well. I've set this wine's drinking window a bit shorter than usual as a result. I'd serve it with Polish golabki: little cabbage rolls of ground beef, tomato, rice and spices. Drink 2019-2026. (ML) Inner quote mark (9/2019)

K&L Notes

Monica Larner provides the following update on Monteraponi: "Michele Braganti has recently renewed a south-facing vineyard located at 550 meters above sea level in Radda in Chianti. He restored the ancient dry walls that surround the property. This site is entirely planted to Sangiovese (Monteraponi's other wines and vineyard sites are characterized by smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino). The idea is to make a 100% Sangiovese single-vineyard or cru expression from this newly refurbished site."
