2015 Schiavenza "Prapò" Barolo

SKU #1423698 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Offering power and a deep, penetrating style, the 2015 Barolo Prapò is a wine with a steady center of gravity. That tight inner core of fruit is typical of this vineyard site and of the Serralunga d'Alba subzone in general. Notes of dark fruit and dried blackberry are followed by spice, cured leather and dark licorice. This is the Barolo you want for a grilled T-bone steak. (ML) Inner quote mark (6/2019)

Outer quote mark Delightfully fragrant aromas with vanilla-dusted roses and red cherries that lead to a palate that has a very succulent texture and a long draw through the finish, delivering a fresh, spicy red-cherry aftertaste. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (1/2019)

Outer quote mark The 2015 Barolo Prapò is another intriguing wine in this range from Schiavenza. Although the 2015 is a bit soft, especially for this cru, it does offer beguiling aromatic nuance and tons of pure appeal. Dried flowers, mint, sage, pine and dried cherry add layers of complexity, Here, too, Schiavenza made a Barolo without the tannic edge that has penalized wines in the past. The Prapò is decidedly small scaled, but its balance and overall sense of harmony are beyond reproach. (AG) Inner quote mark (11/2019)

This is a magnificent offering from Schiavenza and among the more impressive 2015 Barolos I've tasted to-date. It not only captures the rich, concentrated fruit of a warm vintage but also retains substantial acidity and vibrant ripe tannins. This will need a couple of years in the cellar to soften and evolve.
