2016 Talley "Estate" Arroyo Grande Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1419014 92 points Vinous

Lurid red. Spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by hints of cola, candied rose and smoky mineral notes. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering lively red berry flavors and suggestions of floral pastilles and blood orange that emerge with aeration. Nicely concentrated but vibrant and precise in style, delivering solid closing thrust, while smooth tannins lend shape to the long, spice-accented finish. This wine is composed of 65% Rincon and 35% Rosemary's fruit and, like the Chardonnay, it's extremely impressive for what might be called an entry-level bottling. (AG) (1/2019)

91 points James Suckling

A vivid pinot with soaked crabapples, blueberry skin, citrus and raspberry fool. Medium-bodied with lots of fresh fruit, firm tannins, bright acidity and a tangy finish. Very pretty. Drink now. (2/2019)

91 points Wine Spectator

Well-structured, with plenty of savory accents to the red currant, raspberry and dried cherry flavors. Touches of dried mint show midpalate, with a crunchy finish that features toasty notes. Drink now through 2023. (KM) (4/2019)

90 points Wine Enthusiast

Light in the glass and reserved on the nose, this appellation blend shows red fruit, red flowers and a touch of oak on the nose. The palate is easy to like with light raspberry and ripe cranberry flavors, leading into rose petals and lavender toward the finish. (MK) (4/2019)

Allen Meadows - Burghound

A very pretty and nicely layered nose combines notes of various red berries with those of spice and discreet floral wisps. There is good mid-palate density to the attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a succulent mouth feel before concluding in a dusty bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. This needs a few years to flesh out and resolve some tannin but with food it could already be enjoyed. (6/2019)

Jeb Dunnuck

Offering racy notes of tart cherries and subtle mineral and earthy notes, it hits the palate with medium body, bright, clean acidity, and a solid finish. It’s a well-made, enjoyable effort. (11/2018)

K&L Notes

Robert Parker writes: "The one superstar for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Edna Valley is Talley Vineyards. Interestingly, they make most of their money growing vegetables rather than grapes. Yet Brian Talley and his team continue to turn out extremely elegant, European styled wines from this micro-climate at the southern end of the Edna Valley, not far from Arroyo Seco."
