2016 Charles Baur Cremant Rosé d'Alsace

SKU #1417111

Stephan Reinhardt writes in The Wine Advocate: "The domain of Armand Baur and his son, Arnaud, is located in Eguisheim. They cultivate 18 hectares of vineyards surrounding the picturesque village south of Colmar, including the grand cru vineyards Pfersigberg (one hectare of Gewurztraminer) and Eichberg (2.5 hectares of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer) as well as the Turckheim Brand (0.5 hectares planted with Riesling and a bit of Pinot Gris). This family domain has been bottling wines for 70 years, and today their vineyards are completely organically farmed. Harvest (in small plastic bins) is by hand, and the grapes are sorted twice—in the vineyard and in the winery. The Baurs aim for digestible and gastronomic wines where two glasses alone is not enough. This was the goal set by Armand's father, Charles Baur, stating that "three glasses at a minimum should be drunk." Armand took over the domaine from his father in 2009." (10/2018)
