Outer quote mark The 2014 Bettina is an absolutely exquisite wine. Bright, textured and wonderfully silky on the palate, the 2014 exudes class. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, chocolate, mint, chalk and rose petal notes open up effortlessly in the glass. Tasted next to the Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bryant estate, the Bettina has more volume, power and density in all of its dimensions. A powerful, seductive wine, the 2014 captures all of the magic it showed from barrel. Blood orange, pomegranate and rose petal add an exotic flair on the finish. The 2014 is going to need a bit of time to soften, but it has been tremendous on both occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. Bettina, a wine made from David Abreu fruit, has been deeply intriguing since it was first introduced a few years ago. The 2014 is the best version yet. In a word: magnificent. Outer quote mark The 2014 Bettina (named after the owner’s wife) comes from three terrific sites; Madrona, Thorevilos, and Las Posadas. It has more elegance and purity than the DB4 release and boasts terrific notes of crème de cassis, white chocolate, toasty oak, and spring flowers. This beauty is medium to full-bodied, has beautiful purity of fruit, fine tannin, and a great finish. It’s already approachable (like just about every 2014) but will keep for 15+ years. Outer quote mark The 2014 Proprietary Bettina has a much more saturated purple than the DB4 (I believe all of this comes from purchased fruit from David Abreu’s various vineyards in Napa). Loads of forest floor and graphite, blackberry and blueberry fruit dominate the complex set of aromatics. Like most 2014s, there is a softness and lushness, a full-bodied opulence and a long, long finish. This is impressive and beautifully approachable already, but promises to keep for 12-15 more years.
