GRO founder and winemaker Lars Bjorkman grew up in Fresno, CA., and was an offensive lineman for UC Davis where he also picked up a passion for winemaking and viticulture. Winemaker's Notes: "This vineyard is like no other Chardonnay site in the entire Napa Valley. On the border of Carneros and Mt. Veeder appellations, this hillside chardonnay comes together from three different aspects: flat, northern facing, and eastern facing. The cooler marine influences from the San Pablo bay give the chance for the layered, delicate flavors of Chardonnay to slowly develop, while still taking advantage of the intensity from growing at elevation."

We have an astoundingly low price on this single vineyard, Mount Veeder Chardonnay! This is a Chard for you folks out there who love them rich and creamy. It's not overly oaky, but it is packed with rich, ripe flavors of Blenhiem apricot, baked pear, honeycomb and butterscotch. Big, round and textural on the palate, with wave after wave of golden fruit. Some stony minerals and baking spice appear on the finished which is long a lavish. The very low yields of this site have produced a profoundly concentrated, powerful Chardonnay. If you enjoy Lewis, Pahlmeyer, Rochioli, Rombauer etc...check this out.

The nose is an orchard full of peach, apricot, Meyer lemon, and orange blossom. There's a touch of spice coming from the barrel, but it never comes on strong; rather, the barrel just adds some dimension and accent to the aromas. The palate is also very fruity and bright with some great honeyed notes. There's a pleasant roundness and texture to the mouthfeel. This is a great Chardonnay for people looking for richness without going full into oak toast or butter territory. This will be a smash hit at your garden parties this summer.

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine.
