2007 Château de Saint Cosme "Le Poste" Gigondas 6-Pack (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1411096 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The most elegant and complex of the single vineyards, the 2007 Gigondas le Poste (these are all basically 100% Grenache) reveals a youthful ruby/purple-tinged color to go with notes of crushed flowers, olives, cured meats and spice. This full-bodied, utterly seamless beauty has ultra-fine tannin, no hard edges, impeccable overall balance and a sensational finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 15 years or more. (JD) (2/2017)

96 points Wine Spectator

Dense but racy, with a terrifically focused minerality that cuts like a laser through the layers of raspberry ganache, graphite, melted fig and black tea. Long and very precise on the finish, with great latent grip. A stunning combination of power and precision. Best from 2010 through 2022. (JM) (12/2009)

95 points Vinous

Vivid ruby. Spicy black raspberry and floral aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, spicecake and a hint of tobacco; smells a lot like a classy Cote-Rotie. Vibrant, mineral-driven red and dark berry flavors envelop the palate and are complemented by deeper notes of candied licorice and lavender. Becomes sweeter and more minerally on the back half and finishes with excellent clarity and persistent echoes of sweet red fruit and flowers. (JR) (1/2010)

Rhone Blends

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
