 The 2017 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru comes from just 0.5-ha of vine that was affected by frost, so yield was just 10hl/ha. It has an attractive, marine-tinged bouquet with touches of oyster leaf and citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, just the right amount of bitterness to keep you coming back for another sip. This is one of Fèvre’s best Premier Crus.(NM)  (8/2018)

 A discreet application of wood sets off mildly exotic aromas that are composed of mineral reduction, apricot, white peach and ample Chablis typicity. The very rich, impressively concentrated and much bigger flavors brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the powerful and muscular finish that flirts with rusticity but doesn't quite cross the line.  The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu was very reserved when I tasted it, unfurling with reticent aromas of green apple and citrus, followed by a medium-bodied, tense and tight-knit palate with tangy acids and a saline finish. My intuition is that it has good potential, though it's hard to read. Yields were low in Fèvre's Mont de Milieu holdings, coming in at 33 hectoliters per hectare. As the proprietor of fully 78 hectares, William Fèvre is one of Chablis's largest domaines. Fresh, tensile wines that are classical in style have been the watchword here for more than a decade. The domaine's grapes are hand harvested with the exception of the Petit Chablis and are fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and used barrels sourced from Bouchard Père & Fils, depending on the cuvée. After five or six months, the wine fermented in wood is also racked to stainless steel to continue its élevage on the lees. While the 2017s were still only partially formed when I tasted them, they're very promising, as my notes indicate. Director Didier Séguier and his team richly deserve all the accolades they've received for achieving such consistent quality on such a large scale.(WK)  (8/2018)

93-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Clear bright colour, pale but with light green tints, a very classy nose with both white and yellow fruits, Just 22 hl/ha made from half a hectare so it will be scarce. There is an innate sense of balance. Very concentrated, indeed yet with a delicious touch of youthful bitterness to keep the back of the palate fresh. Old vines degenerated by court-nouée virus mean low yields." (01/2019)

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut.
