 The Domaine Fèvre les Clos is another brilliant 2017 grand cru. The bouquet is utterly refined and classically complex, offering up scents of green apple, tart orange, lemon, complex, flinty minerality, white flowers and incipient notes of paraffin in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, rock solid at the core and utterly suave in profile, with excellent, racy acids, superb focus and grip and a very long, very pure and complex finish.  Just bottled, the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is showing well, unwinding in the glass with a pure and charming bouquet of ripe citrus fruits, crisp yellow apples, beeswax and spring flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny-textured, with an enveloping core of fruit, ripe but succulent acids and a long, precise and delicately chalky finish. While this is naturally a little shut down after its recent mise en bouteille, this is a charming, nicely defined vintage of Les Clos that will offer a broad drinking window.(WK)

 Here too there is enough wood to merit mentioning on the decidedly cool and reserved nose that offers up plenty of floral elements along with those of citrus, iodine and oyster shell. The lavishly rich, muscular and overtly powerful flavors possess the hallmark minerality that carries over to the dense, citrusy and very dry finish.  The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru, from 4 hectares at the top of the hill, was harvested at around 23-24hl/ha. It has a very precise bouquet with oyster leaf, Granny Smith apples, wet granite and hints of almond that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of roundness on the entry that is counterbalanced by fine bead of acidity. There is wonderful salinity and a dash of spice on the finish. This is a Chablis that should give at least a decade's worth of drinking pleasure. (NM)  (8/2018)

As always, the most complete and just when you congratulate yourself on how you have understood it, the wine kicks on to an amazing finish. Very complete. - It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut. In France's Burgundy, Chardonnay is the source of the prized wines of Chablis, Corton-Charlemagne, M√Ęcon, Meursault and Montrachet. It also the foundation of exceptional Champagne, where it is blended with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier or vinified on its own into Blanc de Blancs. True French Chablis is a delicate, stony, crisp Chardonnay, bearing no resemblance to the anonymous plonk so labeled here.
