The 2016 Côte de Nuits-Villages finished its malolactic fermenation earlier than its siblings this year, and so it was racked in June. It has a gorgeous and pure bouquet of dark berry fruit, a hint of soy and mineral, all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with more red fruit than the Bourgogne Pinot Noir but, again, silky smooth in texture with startling panache and focus on the finish. What a fabulous wine. (NM)

This is aromatically similar to the Bourgogne but with notably better complexity. The delicious, succulent and generously proportioned flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel where the fine depth flashed by the nose is also present on the finish. Lovely stuff that should offer much pleasure young but should also be capable of rewarding 5 to 7 years of cellaring too. *Outstanding, Top Value*

Vinous
(50% new oak): Medium red. More musky aromas of black raspberry and smoked ham; smells sweeter than the Bourgogne. Then fat with dark berry fruit, offering compelling sweetness and ripe, fine-grained tannins. Bachelet says this wine is more closed than it was in November, but I find it quite pliant--and an outperformer for its appellation.(ST)

The 2016 Domaine Bachelet Côte de Nuits Villages is another wine of lovely purity and sappiness to its fruit tones, as the wine wafts from the glass in a lovely mix of sweet dark berries, black cherries, black minerality, espresso, woodsmoke and a topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite elegant in profile out of the blocks, with a superb core of fruit, fine soil signature and a long suavely tannic and very well-balanced finish. This will only need a few years to start to drink very well, but will also age quite nicely over a couple of decades. (Drink between 2020-2040) 90+

Decanter
From vines in the Que de Hareng lieu-dit in Brochon, on the border with Gevrey-Chambertin's Les Evocelles, this cuvée is always one of the smartest buys in the Bachelet portfolio. Aromas of red and black fruit, mossy soil and a framing of spicy oak lead into a vibrant, fine-grained palate with elegantly chalky tannins and a bright core of fruit, driven by a lovely line of ripe acidity. Drinking Window 2022 - 2038. (WK)
