2017 Résonance (Louis Jadot) Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (Elsewhere $40)

SKU #1408462 93 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark A wine with structure and presence, buoyed by a complex backbone of minerality, wrapped in refined dark cherry and black tea flavors and finishing with fine-grained tannins. (TF) Inner quote mark (10/2019)

92 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This has attractive aromas of fresh, ripe red cherries with notes of fresh and dried herbs and forest bark. The palate has a very fresh, silky feel with intense, ripe red berries and cherries, set amid fine, elegant tannins. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (1/2020)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir has a nose of blackberries, raspberries and rhubarb with notes of dried leaves, tar, earth and mushroom. Medium-bodied, it has crunchy fruit, grainy and fresh with a long, fragrant finish. (EB) Inner quote mark (4/2020)

91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark The first Pinot of the new vintage from Jadot’s Oregon project, this has a soft entry into a palate with pomegranate and raspberry fruit. There’s a balanced herbal frame around the red fruits, and the overall structure suggests that this wine should age quite gracefully. (PG) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A subdued if pretty blend combines notes of both red and dark pinot fruit with those of spice and a floral hint. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the delicious and solidly voluminous flavors that possess a caressing mouthfeel before terminating in a dusty, delicious and serious finish. This mildly raspy effort will need at least a few years to unwind and flesh out, particularly so on the backend. Inner quote mark (1/2020)

K&L Notes

Résonance in the Willamette Valley of Oregon is a project owned by Louis Jadot of France. Winery note: "Résonance is Maison Louis Jadot's first wine project outside of Burgundy since their founding in 1859. Jadot, one of the most venerable wine houses in the world, has been producing wines from Pinot noir's motherland (Burgundy) with its first purchase of the Clos des Ursules vineyard in 1826. For its first venture outside of France, the Louis Jadot team became interested in the terroir and wines from Oregon. In 2013, the ideal location was found and the first vineyard bought in the Willamette Valley, specifically the Resonance Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton. The Résonance project is led by famed Jadot Winemaker, Jacques Lardière, who takes more than 40 years of winemaking experience in Burgundy (and now Oregon) and applies it to Willamette Valley Pinot Noir."

The winemaking team at Louis Jadot know their way around a bottle of Pinot and here, in their first production outside of Burgundy, they employ their full talents as well as using the relative warmth of Oregon to full effect, creating a bottle that clearly references its Burgundy roots while offering a more fun, forward style than other Jadot productions. Friendly, ripe red fruit with white sage and tight minerality that could definitely open up with time, but doesn't unduly burden the palate now.
