2017 Lucien Lardy "Les Thorins" Moulin-à-Vent

SKU #1408160 92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Structured and full of tannins, this wine has a good future. It is not ready yet, but the density of the wine will soften to give great richness, with layers of black fruits, acidity and spice from the old-wood aging. (RV) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Shimmering ruby. Highly perfumed black raspberry, licorice and floral pastille aromas pick up a mineral nuance with air. Chewy and energetic on the palate, offering incisive black and blue fruit flavors that show very good depth, breadth and spicy lift. Dark fruit liqueur and violet notes linger on an impressively persistent finish shaped by steadily mounting tannins. (JR) Inner quote mark (10/2019)

This delicious charmer displays a gorgeous and expressive nose of crushed ripe strawberry, grenadine, and black raspberry framed by red rose, sandalwood, violets, clove, and sweet tobacco. Lively, pure red and black fruit and elegant spice tones linger through a freshly focused and well-structured finish. A versatile companion for both holiday dinners and everyday meals, this is an absolute steal at the price and also a great sipper on its own.

I met Lucien for the first time in May and really enjoyed his gregarious and boisterous nature. I love his wines - they truly do reflect his personality. This Moulin-a-Vent has a big personality too, booming with ample black fruits, spice and floral undertones. There is great power and complexity in this wine...I'd love to put a few away to try in 10, and then 15 years.
